Security is paramount when it comes to cheques, which is why we here at Cheque Print take it very seriously. All of the cheques we print start from the same secure cheque stock, so you know that no matter what you order it is safe. When choosing between our regular and premium versions, you are not sacrificing any security on the cheque stock. The only difference becomes the background ink colour and the border patterns.

We receive numerous calls from customers asking us “why don’t you use the little gold hologram or gold patch on your cheques?” or “I was told I MUST have this on my cheques”. While this may have been true at one point, it no longer stands.
The hologram or foil stamp is not mandatory to meet the old or new CPA cheque standards, and there are several reasons you won’t find them on our cheques. Listed below are a number of reasons why we don’t include the hologram/gold foil stamp on our cheques.
- Cheque Print uses only the most secure cheque stocks available in North America, and reliably so. Our security is built into the stock itself, whereas the hologram is simply an added window dressing after the cheques are created.
- The hologram is applied to cheque stock or any other paper, making it a poor security tactic at best. We can add it easily, but so can any dishonest printer or fraud artist. No real security comes from this - in fact it creates a false sense of security. Unlike the hologram on your 10, 20, 50 & 100 dollar bills, these “seals” can be purchased and added by anyone.
- The new CPA standards are very clear that nothing unnecessary is to appear on cheques, and when cheques with the hologram are scanned by the bank only, a black box appears. Not only does this not provide the cheque with additional security, but there is no way for anyone to tell that the box is a hologram and not just a black printed box once the cheque is processed.
- These holograms have been known to flake off in some laser printers, so much so that some manufacturers of laser printers may not honor a warranty if these holograms create issues to the machine itself.
